Empowering the Next Generation: FirstLight’s Continued Commitment to the Young Achievers Forum

For more than five years, the FirstLight Community Foundation and FirstLight Federal Credit Union have proudly partnered in the annual Young Achievers Forum, an inspiring initiative hosted by CommUNITY En Acción. Each year, this event brings together hundreds of middle school students to show them, clearly and confidently, that higher education is not a distant dream. It’s possible right here at home.

A Day Built to Inspire

During this one‑day forum, more than 700 students from local school districts hear directly from over 35 leaders representing businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations. These speakers share honest stories about their personal challenges and the paths that shaped them into the leaders they are today. The message is simple but powerful: Everyone’s journey is different, no one’s path is easy, and perseverance is what makes success possible.

This year, FirstLight Federal Credit Union’s President and CEO, Margie Salazar, and Chief Information Officer, Juan Gonzalez, each spoke to groups of more than 100 students. They offered insight into their own experiences, the obstacles they overcame, and the motivation that continues to drive them forward. Their presence underscored FirstLight’s commitment to uplifting the next generation of leaders.

Supporting Families Through Financial Education

While students engaged with community leaders, the FirstLight Community Foundation team hosted a Financial Education Workshop for more than 175 parents in attendance. The goal was clear: empower families with the knowledge and tools that support long‑term financial well‑being.

Financial education doesn’t just change one life; it strengthens entire families and, ultimately, the community. By equipping parents with practical financial skills, the Foundation helps ensure that the impact of the Young Achievers Forum extends far beyond a single day.

Building a Stronger, Brighter Future Together

The Young Achievers Forum continues to be a powerful reminder of what can happen when community organizations come together with a shared purpose. FirstLight is honored to play a role in encouraging students to dream big, pursue higher education, and believe in their potential.

And as long as there are young minds eager to learn and families striving for a better future, FirstLight will be there—supporting, educating, and empowering every step of the way.
