A New Path To Homeownership

A New Path To Homeownership

For many, homeownership is a lifelong dream, but the journey to get there can often feel overwhelming. At the FirstLight Community Foundation, celebrating ten years of community impact means more than reflecting on the past; it means expanding our mission forward through our three core pillars: Financial Education, Scholarships, and Home Affordability.

This year, The FirstLight Community Foundation launched a first-of-its-kind program in our region, designed to break down barriers to homeownership. In collaboration with the Mortgage Department at FirstLight Federal Credit Union, we created a pathway that combines financial education, guided savings, and matching funds to make the dream of owning a home a reality.

We are proud to introduce Jessica Rubalcaba who recently became a homeowner through this initiative. With determination and the support of our dedicated team, she reached her goal and on August 13, 2025, officially closed on her new home.

The program is structured with a clear focus: empowering future homeowners with the knowledge and resources they need for long-term success. Participants complete six financial education workshops led by certified financial counselors, while also working toward a savings goal of $1,000. Upon completion, the Foundation matches those savings up to $5,000, turning possibility into reality.

This milestone was made possible through the collaboration and dedication of many. We extend our thanks to:

Doris Bernal, Mortgage Loan Officer, NMLS 1402735, for guiding the home financing process. Martha Hinostroza, Certified Financial Counselor, for providing trusted education and support. And the entire FirstLight Community Foundation team, whose commitment continues to drive meaningful impact in our community.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to creating more stories like this one, helping individuals and families achieve their dreams of homeownership while building a stronger, more resilient community.
