The journey to higher education is rarely simple, but it is always meaningful. Each spring, as graduation caps begin to fill the air and dreams inch closer to reality, we are reminded of the incredible determination of our region’s youth. We see their passion, their hunger to learn, and their hope for a brighter future.

For many, this season brings excitement and uncertainty. April and May roll in, and with them come the questions: Will I have enough to pay for college? Did I submit everything correctly? What even is a transcript, and how do I get one? Some students walk this path with guidance and support, while others are trailblazers—the first in their families to navigate the unknown, translating not just languages but entire processes for loved ones at home. And yet, despite different backgrounds and barriers, they all share one beautiful goal: to succeed.

This year, our community’s commitment to education shone brighter than ever, like the beautiful El Paso Mountain Star we see every day as we travel through I-10. Over 720 students from more than 50 high schools across El Paso, Fort Bliss, and Las Cruces submitted their stories, dreams, and aspirations through our scholarship program, making it one of the most competitive in our history.

To the devoted review committee, thank you for your time, care, and thoughtfulness. It was no easy task. But after hours of reading, reflecting, and heartfelt discussion, 35 remarkable students were selected.

We are filled with pride and deep gratitude as we celebrate and welcome our 2025 FirstLight Community Foundation Scholarship Recipients. Their stories inspire us, and their futures give us hope.
